We are always on the lookout for great ideas and products that we can recommend. The Better Sleep Pillow is one of those products where we saw it and immediately thought, “Wow! Why didn’t we think of that?” One of the biggest problems with sleeping on an injured shoulder is what to do with your arms. Our arms put a lot of weight and torque on our injured shoulder muscles. Instead of getting a good night’s sleep and letting our bodies heal, we end up stressing them out even more. We wake up sore, unrested, and it often feels like our shoulders have gotten worse. After trying out several different pillows over the years, including fancy memory foam pillows from well known department stores, we were excited to find this product.
First, take a look at the shape of the pillow. It has a stretchable channel down the middle along the underside. allowing you to stretch your arm up under the pillow. Now this can be uncomfortable for some shoulder pain injuries, but for many this lets you extend your arm without putting unnecessary weight on your shoulder joint. If you don’t like to sleep with your arm straight up above your head, simply rotate the pillow until your arm is at your preferred angle.
Here is another view from the underside of the pillow. You can see the arm channel. You can also see the front lip, another important feature for shoulder pain sufferers. The front lip lets you tuck your shoulder and your arm under the front side of the pillow. The weight of your head is absorbed by the pillow further up rather than putting pressure directly on your shoulder.
Finally, here is the side view of the pillow. In this picture you can clearly see the front lip. Here is where you can tuck your shoulder and arm under without putting any extra pressure on your shoulder injury. All in all, this is the most flexible pillow we’ve seen in terms of accommodating all the different sleeping preferences and shoulder injuries.
